These pictures are in order, as it happened. The whole thing took 20-30 minutes.
We’re sitting in our dingy at the mouth of Magdalena Bay. All is calm.
A duck stops by. “Nancy would like to see a whale,” I say.
The duck disappears. Soon, a Momma and two babies surface.
Nancy splashes at the front of the dingy. Our motor has been off for quite some time.
The whales turn towards us.
“Can I see your babies?” Nancy asks.
We hear no answer, but Momma swims almost directly underneath us. We can see her clearly.
Her dive is gentle and smooth.
Soon the babies file by.
“You’re so pretty,” Nancy says.
A sea lion bobs directly in front of us.
“We are grateful,” I say. The Sea Lion disappears.
