In the winter of 2002, the crew of Mermaid (also Mermaid Video) anchored in English Harbour in Antigua during the Superyachts Show, where charter brokers from around the world toured and evaluated the cream of the yachting fleet.
The crew of Mermaid was free to walk the docks, but didn’t tour any of the yachts. Nine-year-old Pender, Mermaid’s vexiologist, noticed that one yacht’s 12-foot St. Vincent flag (of convenience) was rigged upside-down. The St. Vincent flag is slightly tricky, so Pender was exceptionally generous and kind while he explained the proper orientation to the crew of the over-100 foot long yacht, and they quickly corrected their mistake.
Today in La Paz, I drove all the way around the 147 foot Delta yacht Gran Finale, hoping to find someone on deck.
I think they would have enjoyed this story.
