The webbing straps on my TEVA’s and good sandals have loaded up with salt and wicked-sharp granite dust (grus), and the tops of my feet were being cut to ribbons.
So I had to switch to my Australian workboots for our nature expeditions into the stark and wild desert. These all-plastic wonders were more than kind to my dainty feet,
until they loaded up with goatheads and stickers that buried themselves in the neoprene soles until they worked through and dug tiny little holes in my soles.
We’re soaking the TEVAs and sandals in fabric softener, but I fear we may have to give up walking.
Certainly shoes are out of the question.
