Here in Baja, the sun comes up in the morning and sometimes it stays up longer than is strictly required. So we made a simple shade tent that hangs off the boom. It took about an hour to sew, and we used pieces of Sched 80 1″ CPVC plastic pipe for the braces.
We got the fabric from Home Depot. Very cool stuff. It does a great job with the sun, but the amazing part is that it’s completely silent. It blows around a little with the wind but doesn’t make any noise, and doesn’t pull too hard on the ties. It also weighs very little compared to standard sun-shade materials. We’ll see how long it lasts in the sun.
